Victoria Beckham reportedly hurt by Elton John birthday snub
Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz joined Elton John and David Furnish for Furnish’s 64th birthday celebrations in Venice, while Brooklyn’s estranged parents, Victoria and David Beckham, were absent. A Closer source says Victoria was heartbroken that the family rift had affected her long-standing friendship with the couple.
The party took place at Elton’s Club, inside a luxury hotel on Venice’s Giudecca island. Among the guests were Damian Hurley, another of Elton’s godchildren, DJ Fat Tony and the couple’s sons, Zachary, 15, and Elijah, 13. Brooklyn, 27, described the weekend as “unforgettable” in a social media tribute to his godparents.
A source quoted by Closer said Elton and Furnish told the Beckhams that Brooklyn and Peltz, 31, would attend, adding that they loved David and Victoria but felt it would be impossible to host both couples amid the family rift. The source said Victoria understood the decision and would not expect Elton to reject Brooklyn, but felt the estrangement was affecting friendships and celebrations that mattered to her.
Elton, 79, and Furnish have been close to the Beckhams for decades. Elton is also godfather to Brooklyn’s brother Romeo, 24. The source said Victoria and David, 51, hoped Elton would keep them informed about their son and might help repair the relationship. Elton had reportedly told them he was trying to mediate, though the source said Victoria was beginning to doubt whether those efforts were making progress.
Tensions between Brooklyn and his parents were rumored in the run-up to his 2022 wedding. Earlier this year, he published a six-page statement accusing his parents of trying to sabotage his relationship with Peltz and saying he had no plans to reconcile. David and Victoria have not publicly responded, but have appeared to make gestures toward him on social media, despite being blocked by him. The couple also holidayed in the South of France with Brooklyn and Peltz over the summer, and attended Elton’s annual Oscars viewing party earlier this year.
