Olivia Colman's Confetti Regret and the Aftermath of Unscripted Nudity

For Oscar winner Olivia Colman, the 2006 mockumentary Confetti remains a source of enduring professional trauma. What began as an improvised comedy project spiraled into a bitter dispute after the actress discovered that explicit scenes she believed would be pixelated were left entirely exposed in the final theatrical cut.

Colman, who starred alongside Robert Webb as a naturist couple, described the experience as the worst of her life, admitting she struggled with insomnia for a year following the film's release. Both actors felt deeply betrayed by the filmmakers, claiming they were misled about the extent of the nudity required for the project. The pair initially consulted lawyers to pursue legal action, but ultimately abandoned the case because Webb preferred to distance himself from the memories of the production.

Nearly two decades later, Colman is revisiting the genre with the upcoming release of Wicker, an adaptation of The Wicker Husband. Unlike her experience on Confetti, the actress noted that the production prioritized clear boundaries regarding intimacy. Starring opposite Alexander Skarsgård, who portrays a partner constructed from wicker, Colman confirmed that the film’s romantic sequences rely on imagination rather than skin-to-skin contact. The film, which features a cast including Peter Dinklage and Elizabeth Debicki, arrives in UK cinemas on 30 October.
