A decade into his venture, O’Neill has transformed Rethink Group from a singular agency into a comprehensive platform encompassing finance, legal services, and wealth management. By targeting the US$1.43 million to US$14.2 million segment, the firm captures a market sweet spot between individual investors and major institutions. Today, the company commands 61 percent of Australia’s commercial buyers’ agent market, yet O’Neill remains focused on asset quality over sheer transaction volume to protect the firm’s reputation.
Scott O’Neill and the Commercial Property Revolution
Scott O’Neill watched his father struggle with the volatility of negatively geared residential property, a memory that drove him to abandon the traditional Australian investment playbook. In 2015, he launched Rethink Investing, pioneering a commercial buyers’ agency model that has since facilitated US$5 billion in transactions.

Beyond property, the long-term vision is to institutionalize the company so it functions independently of its founder. With 150 employees and a suite of diversified services, O’Neill is shifting his focus from rapid growth to sustainable legacy. He maintains that true success is no longer about personal branding or short-term gains, but about building a self-sustaining system capable of navigating shifting market cycles long after he steps away.
