The Klines' journey began in 2016, driven by the pressure of student loans and a desire to escape the confines of traditional employment. After nine months of generating zero income, a $50 sponsored post served as the catalyst for Kelan to leave his job as a jail deputy. Today, their company, Savvy Media Marketing, operates on four core pillars: display advertising, affiliate commissions, brand sponsorships, and proprietary digital products.
From $40,000 in debt to a million-dollar digital empire
Kelan and Brittany Kline spent nearly a decade transforming a $2.95-a-month hobby blog into a seven-figure media business. By moving away from a reliance on search engine traffic and diversifying into direct sales, the Rochester-based couple reached $1.3 million in annual revenue by 2023.

Selling their own offerings—such as meal planning memberships for Brittany’s site, The Savvy Mama—has become a priority. These digital products allow the couple to solve specific audience problems while capturing recurring revenue. While display and affiliate models provided early momentum, the couple now warns against relying on a single traffic source. Having weathered fluctuations in search engine visibility, they are pivoting toward building assets they fully control, including YouTube content and agency services for local businesses. For the Klines, the transition from passive blogging to active product creation represents a shift toward sustainable, scalable income.
