Citadel Records Historic July Surge Following Strategic Portfolio Buy

A 14.2% jump in July pushed Ken Griffin’s flagship stock-picking fund to its most profitable month in history, defying a volatile market that saw many multistrategy peers finish in the red. The performance was anchored by a calculated acquisition of assets from the Situational Awareness public portfolio.

The deal, executed at a 10% discount, catalyzed significant price appreciation for holdings including CoreWeave, SK Hynix, and Bloom Energy. This tactical maneuvering propelled the Miami-based firm's stock-picking vehicle to a 27% gain for the year to date. Citadel’s Tactical Trading fund, which integrates quantitative models with human analysis, mirrored this success with an 11.1% increase in July and a matching 27% annual return.

While market turbulence hampered competitors throughout the month, Citadel’s broader Wellington fund—encompassing commodities, macro, fixed income, and credit—gained 5.9% in July, bringing its total annual performance to 12%. The firm, now managing $71 billion, declined to comment on the specific figures reported by sources close to the hedge fund.
